The biggest threat to modern civilization is not from terrorists, Global Warming or nuclear bombs. The biggest threat to modern civilization is OBFUSCATION:

ob·fus·cate (bf-skt, b-fskt)
tr.v. ob·fus·cat·ed, ob·fus·cat·ing, ob·fus·cates
1. To make so confused or opaque as to be difficult to perceive or understand: "A great effort was made . . . to obscure or obfuscate the truth" (Robert Conquest).
2. To render indistinct or dim; darken: The fog obfuscated the shore.

Pseudo-intellectuals are annoying because they take simple concepts and make them sound complex. This is called "elitism". True intellectuals make complex ideas simple and elegant. This is called "communication".

The law is written in a language deliberately designed to confuse, baffle and mislead the public. This is called "obfuscation" and it is elitist. The role of the modern day lawyer is to interpret and write obfuscated language. They are the enablers of elitism.

Therefore I propose a new system where any disagreement over a contract should be decided upon by a jury of three. These would be three peers in the field which the contract pertains to. If two out of three peers do not understand the contract, it is null and void.

Hence there will be no more hoodwinking the public with 1,000 page legal documents and mountains of legalese. Laws would have to be written in a way which normal people can understand.

The challenge for the legal profession will be to hone their skills at elegant communication instead of cloudy obfuscation. Lawyers will be replaced by communicators. "We the People" will finally understand what we are voting upon.

Let's take the power back.
